Installation of a do-it-yourself water leakage control system in an apartment

It is always good when the engineering systems of your apartment are operating normally, but unforeseen situations occur when everything is not going according to plan. The water supply system in the apartment consists of pipes, connections and water fittings. The connections are reliable, but in the expectation that this connection can leak, it can result in expensive repairs, and as a rule not only at home but also at the neighbors. In order not to invest, a large amount, in repeated repairs and repairs from neighbors, it is better to invest a small amount in the system from water leakage. I have a new house, but I decided to play it safe, especially since the repair was not yet completed.

There are different systems, but as a rule, they all work on the same principle. At the input, cranes with a drive are installed, which are closed when there is a signal from the sensors about leakage. I could not afford a very expensive system, so immediately the systems with wireless sensors and GSM communications were removed from the list.

After searching the Internet, I found several systems, settled on the domestic manufacturer SPYHEAT and its Triton water leakage control system. The kit comes in a small cardboard case with a handle. In a suitcase are four boxes and instructions. In two boxes there are electric ball valves, in the third box – a set of four sensors, in the fourth – a controller.

Ball valves are made of brass, electric drives are protected by a body made of orange plastic. On the body, there is a handle for manually closing the tap. To use the handle, it must be pulled over and rotated before closing or opening the ball valve. The indicator in the window indicates the position of the shutter.

The controller is located in a plastic case and can be installed in a standard panel such as Legrand. On the front panel of the controller are a liquid crystal display and control buttons.

The “On / Off” button – the button to turn on and off the system (the system turns on and off with a long press on this button).

“Reset” – resetting the alarm condition. After pressing this button, the controller gives a command to open the ball valves, regardless of the state of the sensors. If after 3 minutes after opening the emergency situation (water on the sensors) persists, the controller will continue to work according to the “emergency” algorithm.

“Reverse” – a change in the position of the crane to the opposite. If the tap was closed at the moment of pressing this button, the controller will open it and vice versa.

“Block” – blocking the operation of the controller. The lock will remain in effect until all the sensors are dry, after which the controller will go into standby mode.

“Lock” – locks the keys of the controller from accidental pressing. It is carried out by simultaneously pressing the “on / off” and “block” buttons, the display shows a “lock” (a very good function, especially when there are small children in the house).

Plastic sensors with a hole in the middle. Using a screw or dowel, the sensor can be fixed to the floor. The length of the wire is 3 m but can be increased if necessary.

Installing the system does not cause many difficulties and anyone can handle it. First, you need to determine the places of probable leaks, these usually include pipe sections with a large number of connections, installation sites for water taps and household appliances, such as dishwashers and washing machines. I decided to install the sensors in the installation location of the washing machine, under the kitchen sink, in the sanitary unit (near the input unit) and the bathroom. It is better to fix the sensors to the base so that they are parallel to the floor plane. If the opportunity allows, you can fix it with a small screw directly to the base, if the self-tapping tool cannot be used, you can drill a hole for the dowel and fix it with it.

In accordance with the instructions, first of all, it is necessary to connect the built-in battery, it is she who is responsible for the performance of the system in the event of a 220V power outage. To do this, unscrew the two screws from the back of the controller and connect the contacts of the battery and controller. The battery in the system uses a lithium-polymer capacity of 1000 mAh. On a charge from the “box”, without connecting a 220V network, the battery was able to open and close the taps three times, then did not try. I decided to install the controller near the water distribution unit in the sanitary unit. To do this, cut a hole with a diameter of 64 mm in the cabinet, using a crown, and installed a controller.

To insert the ball valves into the water supply system, I called the plumber. Inserting cranes is not more difficult than installing meters, so it does not cause any special difficulties. In my case, the plumber put the taps after the counters, which seems to me not quite right, since it is better to put them to all places of a possible leak. Perhaps in the future, I will correct this mistake.

According to the instructions, you must connect all the wires to the controller. All connection points are marked and this procedure does not cause difficulties. I want to pay attention, the wires from the cranes can be combined and only three, not six, can be connected to the controller. The system is also designed to connect the ground wire, so if there is one, it is better to connect.

After installing the system, it is necessary to check its operability, for this, it is necessary to wet the sensor. As soon as the sensor senses moisture, the controller gives a signal to baits and the ball valves automatically close. At the same time, a sound and light signal is heard. The tap closing procedure is approximately seven seconds (checked several times). In such a short time, tragedy is unlikely to happen.

After checking the performance of the system, for all sensors, I left the system on duty. The system automatically and periodically opens and closes taps, thereby preventing the acidification of ball valves. If necessary, by pressing the buttons on the controller, you can shut off the water supply by force. This function is very convenient when, for example, you are going on vacation, pressed a button and the taps will automatically close. Opening cranes, although it is recommended to periodically close and open, few people do, as a result of which they turn sour and close them sometimes, it is not possible.

As a result, we get a fairly budgetary, workable system that will help in the event of a leak to avoid large financial losses.

What else I want to note. The Triton water leakage control system is a domestic development and is fully produced at a plant in the Russian Federation. The warranty on the system is 5 years, but I think it will serve much more.
